Earaches can also result from a perforated or ruptured eardrum, a tear in the thin tissue separating the ear canal and middle ear. This condition can cause sharp pain, drainage, hearing loss, or ringing in the ears and may occur due to:
- Loud noises or trauma
- Ear infections
- Use of cotton swabs or foreign objects in the ear
If left untreated, eardrum damage can lead to permanent hearing loss.
